Police say a man arrested on a charge of killing another man last week used an ax to commit the crime.
According to court papers, 28-year-old Royce Reese, Jr. and three others went to the home of Ramon Rivera, 31 on November 8 to collect on a debt.
They confronted Rivera at his East Side home in the 2200 block of East Houston and began to argue over money, said police.
Investigators believe Reese pulled out an ax that he is known to carry around and hit Rivera several times on the head. He died at the scene. Rivera's estranged wife discovered his body on the floor of his home the next morning.
Police say after the murder, Reese and the other suspects stole some of Rivera’s belongings, loaded them into Rivera’s Chevrolet Trailblazer and took off.
Police located the stolen SUV and a tip then led them to Reese.
More arrests are expected.
