Mr. Adam Rangel and family hold the 20th Annual Shoe Offering at Martin Luther King Academy
SAN ANTONIO- (August 26, 2018) Doors opened at 12 noon last Saturday, at Martin Luther King Academy, for the 20th Annual Rangel Back To School Shoe Offering. This offering takes place every year and for the 20th time last Saturday. Started by Mr. Adam Rangel, and now with the help of his sons, the offering has been an event to look forward to for years during the back to school rush.
“He sees these children who have a need and he has filled that need for 20 years”, says one parent. “We have never missed a year” stated Mr. Rangel to the Observer.
This offering is above and beyond kindness to the community and our children. We here at the Observer have been afforded the opportunity to cover Mr. Rangel’s Shoe Offering each year and it is a touching event for all.
“When you see Local Judges take our kids by the hand and fit them for shoes, on a Saturday, it kind of gets to you, and the kids feel so special after they get there new shoes” said Ms. Barnes who accompanied her grandchildren with her daughter. “They even give us hot dogs, soda, and chips!” said little Isaiah whom enters the 3rd grade this year. Isaiah definitely wore a smile out the door to accompany his new shoes.
Being from a large family, Mr. Rangel was used to hand me downs although sometimes the shoe or shoes didn’t always fit. They were sometimes to large although, in true style Mr. Rangel was thankful he had the shoes he did. Today, it’s brand new shiny shoes in the box for these children at Martin Luther King Academy. The new soles these children get today will take them to a lot of school classes, playgrounds, and life- and they are a perfect fit.
Mr. Rangel and family have marked their 20th year of spreading love. As we attended the event at Martin Luther King Academy we found it special to be in a place where the late Dr. Martin Luther King is named after and emulates him by spreading love. This event was all about just that- spreading love. Dr. King always spread love- so what better place to be on the 20th anniversary of this shoe offering. The community is so thankful for Mr. Rangel and family, for their continued support and love that they give to the Eastside of San Antonio.
The shoe offering tries to specifically help those in need and it definitely does that plus so much more. Leaving this shoe offering, not only are your hands full but your heart is too.
Thank you to the Rangel Family from your Eastside family!
