The San Antonio Spurs are 1 – 4 in their last five games. The lone win was a home
game against the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors 104 – 92. LaMarcus Aldridge provided some real offensive and defensive production as he powered his way to 24 points and 18 rebounds. The Warrior’s loss completed a three game skid against all three Texas NBA teams. San Antonio’s win was sandwiched in between road woes… the road has not been kind to the Silver and Black. The Spurs were coming off a three game skid themselves losing to Sacramento, Phoenix, and the L.A. Clippers before returning home to defeat the Warriors on Sunday. But a return trip on the road spelled yet another loss as the Spurs travelled to New Orleans for a Monday night match up against the Pelicans.
The effect of the back to back was evident as the Spurs showed flaws in defensive coverages and allowed the Pelicans to outplay them in the paint and giving up 140 points. Julius Randall had a triple double in the Pelican win with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. A bright spot for the Spurs was the play of Dante Cunningham who scored a season high 19 points on 7 -7 shooting while hitting all five of his 3-pt attempts in the loss. Aldridge scored just 7 points as he took only 11 shots. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 21 points.
