SA MAYOR SPEAKS ON MASS SHOOTINGS

Mayor Nirenberg’s remarks on El Paso and Dayton tragedies

SAN ANTONIO (August 4, 2019) — “The news this weekend has left me frustrated and furious, emotions certainly shared by all San Antonio residents.

Communities like El Paso, Dayton, and San Antonio — American communities — derive much of our strengths from our diversity. Gun violence stoked by hatred, racism and xenophobia is not a mental illness. It is unequivocally a national crisis.

San Antonio’s leaders must act to address what we can do here at the local level to fortify our efforts in combating domestic terrorism and gun violence. I look forward to the discussions with my Council colleagues, City leadership, and area elected officials as we work to provide for an even safer San Antonio.

We stand united with our grieving neighbors and will use our diverse backgrounds, cultures and beliefs to drive this scourge out of our communities.”
