Texans now have 820 new laws to know about. Most of the lawmaking the Texas Legislature did earlier this year went into effect on September 1. Among the significant changes are new laws that loosen restrictions on gun ownership and gun use in schools, foster homes, apartment buildings, and houses of worship. The Lege also raised the legal age to buy tobacco products, from 18 to 21. Sending an unsolicited sext can now get you a criminal charge. Telemarketers can no longer call Texans using fake numbers. Kids can set up lemonade stands without being bothered by pesky local regulations, and women can pump breastmilk wherever they please—and they can do it all while wearing brass knuckles, which are now legal, too.
