The Spurs dropped to 0-3 this preseason with a 123-116 loss Sunday to the New Orleans Pelicans. The Spurs were led by Bryn Forbes with 18 points. Forbes has led the team in scoring in 2 of the 3 preseason games thus far. DeMar DeRozan added 16 points in the loss.
The game itself was a story of two half’s. Although they committed 11 turnovers to the Pelicans 5, the Spurs dominated the first half. The team opened the game with an 18-3 lead and went into halftime up 66-56. The Pelicans started the second half with a vengeance. Led by the #1 pick in last year’s draft, Zion Williamson’s game high 22 points and 10 rebounds, the Pelicans quickly erased a 10-point halftime deficit and throttled the Spurs in the 3rd quarter 35-16. The third quarter run by the Pelicans was too much to overcome as the Pelicans cruised to the victory.
Asked about the difference in the first and second half’s, Spurs guard Bryn Forbes responded, “I think our ball movement was great. We were playing some defense and that helped a lot. But we really didn’t keep the pressure on them like we did from the start. We started off well but we kind of tapered off. That’s one of our focuses. To play a full 48 and finish games”.

There’s two games left in the preseason before the official opening of the regular season. Let’s hope Coach Popovich works out the kinks and has the team ready for another championship run.
