A damaged bridge on the East Side is causing delays and dangers for drivers.

It has been a slow down for the last few weeks.

A few weeks ago, crews discovered part of the bridge rail damaged.

“It was hit. The bridge was hit by something,” says Josh Donat, Public Information Officer for TX DOT.

The damages are costing up to $250,000 in repairs.

“Creates a safety hazard. Poses a risk,” says Donat.

The damages have even forced the closure of one lane.

“Even though it might be a minor fix it usually involves cutting the chunk out,” explains Donat.

A headache for commuters, especially in an area where there is already construction

“It's pretty wild. I live down the street. Sometimes I get off on the next exit but it is the same thing,” says Martinez.

Last month, a rollover crash killed two children and one adult near WW White Rd.

Investigators say the driver was heading South on Loop 410 and lost control.

As crews continue to fix the damaged bridge, they advise everyone to be careful.

“If you see crews out there working just slow down and extra 5 to 10 miles an hour. Remember that they are trying to work hard to make sure that we get that reopened as quickly as possible,” says Donat.

Officials say it won't be fixed until the first week of December.
