San Antonio- Thousands of dollars’ worth of tools were stolen from inside a man's truck.

The incident happened on the city’s East side.

“Busted out window,” said Frederick Kirksey as he looked inside his trucks broken window.

A shattered window and broken door handle is what Frederick Kirksey is forced to look at.

“Four or five drills, saws, hand saws. Easily $3,000 or $4,000 worth of stuff,” Kirksey.

Tools and company checks were stolen from the contractor's work truck at his east side apartment complex.

“These tools are what we use,” said Kirksey.

In the past month there have been more than 30 vehicle burglaries in a half mile radius from where Kirksey lives.  In the past three months, more than 150.  “Couple of seconds they're in,” said Gilbert De La Portilla.

Gilbert De La Portilla is a crime tracker specialist. He says never leave items visible in your vehicle. If it is broken into, call police. “The best place to check is the pawn shops and of course craigslist,” said De La Portilla.  Kirksey is asking the community to help him track down his tools and company checks.  “The items are marked with BTB Contractors on it,” said Kirksey.  He is also reminding people to be vigilant and immediately report anything suspicious they see or hear.

“Maybe we can all get together and help each other you know watch each other’s stuff,” said Kirksey.
