First Black City Councilwoman in Kirby

Barbara Collins Bowie became the first African American appointed as Councilwoman to the City of Kirby, Texas.  This historic action, under Mayor Tim Wilson, occurred at the City Council Meeting on Monday, February 20, 2017.  

 

She was voted an interim to serve out the term of another Councilman who resigned. There was one no vote to three favorable votes. Councilwoman Bowie was sworn in following the meeting, the current Mayor, Tim Wilson announced his resignation at the conclusion of the meeting.   Bowie will seek re-election in May 2017.
