Spurs Beat

March 8, 2017

The Spurs are on a roll! Riding an eight game win streak, the team continues to follow the lead of its All- Star and rack up wins following the All-Star break. Last week the Spurs went 3 – 0 including a back to back that resulted in two overtime victories against the New Orleans Pelicans and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

One would not expect the Spurs to come out against the Houston Rockets to begin the week with one days rest. The Rockets are one of the hottest three-point shooting teams in the NBA with one of the stronger benches and are hot on the tail of the Spurs in the Southwest Conference. The Spurs with not much in the tank fell behind early in the first half and often against its rival before mounting a defensive presence late in the second quarter to trail only by seven at halftime.

The second half saw the team began the third quarter like the first until again the team was called upon to step up its defense to finally make it a close game in 4 th quarter and that’s when the team’s MVP with help from Tony Parker and David Lee took over. Leonard scored 39 points in the game with clutch shooting/free throws and had the block of the game on James Harden with less than 25 seconds left in the game.

The Spurs won a close one… 112 -110.

Note: Leonard was named Western Conference player of the week.
