I am very happy to inform our readers I have been honored to serve on Project ALERT Coalition as Media Sector representative.
Project ALERT (Adolescents Life Education through Resistance Training) is a non-profit Drug Free Community (DFC) coalition that is fiscal responsibility of the George Gervin Youth Center Inc.. The DFC Program helps local leaders organize to identify the youth drug issues unique to our communities and develop the infrastructures necessary to effectively prevent and respond to the disease of addiction.
Do we have a problem in San Antonio and on the East Side? Absolutely! But we can't be defeated and we have to do our part to create the change we want to see. Project ALERTCoalition is a federal grant program that provides initial funding to community-based coalitions that organize to prevent youth substance abuse. At this time, we need new leaders to join the effort in the 78202 and 78220 zip codes. Please contact me at the newspaper if you would like to volunteer your time, talent or treasurer.
I have found, as we are closing out the last tax year, the Observer blessed many nonprofits, schools, and faith groups with approximately $100,000 of donated space. We want to to continue to keep you aware on all things that help grow our community which has approximately 250,000 potential readers. Again, reach back to me if you can support ProjectALERT. Ideally, public agencies like UHS should be first in line to build a real and true relationship with our community.
