November 27, 2017 – Students both inside and outside the boundaries of San Antonio ISD may apply to the District’s non-boundary “Choice” Schools and Programs beginning today for the upcoming school year. The application period for these specialized schools and magnets is Nov. 27, 2017-Jan. 31, 2018* for the 2018-19 school year.
Students do not have to reside in SAISD boundaries to apply to a Choice School or Magnet Program.
The District offers more than 20 specialized, non-boundary schools, across different grade levels, with diverse areas of focus and innovative methods of instruction. Offerings include early college high schools, dual-language academies, an advanced learning academy, single-gender schools, and the city’s only public Montessori school.
Students have the opportunity to pursue specialized instruction based on their individual interests and aspirations. Some of these schools operate under non-traditional grade configurations, such as PK-8, PK-12 and 6-12.
SAISD magnet programs are a fast-track to college and career, giving students the opportunity to earn up to 45 hours** of college credit by high school graduation. The District’s magnet programs are tightly aligned to Alamo Colleges’ programs and are offered at eight SAISD high schools. Students earn the college credit through a mix of dual-credit courses and Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credit by exam.
