Prince Hall Shriners elect New Leadership


SAN ANTONIO – The Prince Hall Shriners of Moussa Temple No. 106, Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine, North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc., duly elected Burrell Parmer as its 50th Illustrious Potentate (president) during its annual elections held at the Masonic Temple on the city’s eastside, Dec. 14.


Parmer, who served as potentate in 2016 returns to the leadership with the vision of strengthening brotherhood through conducting works in the community.  


“It is an honor to be re-elected as the leader of this time-honored institution of Prince Hall Shriners, said Parmer after his installment. “I look forward with pride and enthusiasm as we continue to better the lives of others through our National Diabetes Initiative, Student Aid, Voter Registration/Education,and Shriners as Mentors programs.” 




Parmer is no stranger to the community; he serves on the Claude W. Black Center Advisory Board, healing souls, Inc., WORLD LOLEI Enterprise, and Board of Trustees of the Fred Brock American Legion Post No. 828.  


He is also a member of San Antonio Lodge No. 1, life member of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP, Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 76, and co-founder of Noble Gentlemen of San Antonio. 


In addition to his duties as the Illustrious Potentate, Parmer serves as the public relations director for the Desert of Texas (state-level) and is the editor of the Texas Desert Traveler quarterly publication.


A native of Monroe, La., Parmer is a graduate of Delta High School in Mer Rouge, La., and Park University in Parkville, Mo.  In May 1991, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps with follow-on commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1997.  


In 2008, Parmer was transferred from Okinawa, Japan to San Antonio where he served as a strategic planner for the Information Operations Warfare Center, U.S. Joint Staff. He retired from the Marines in 2012 at the rank of major after 21 years of faithful and honorable service.
