January has not been a consistent month for the San Antonio Spurs. They have not won consecutive games as they continue to fight through injuries. They have been able to win against teams without winning records but struggle against teams that are playing close to .500 ball.
The past week saw the team lose against the Lakers 93 – 81, blow out Denver at home with an almost complete lineup 112 – 80, and then lose on the road to the struggling Atlanta Hawks in the first game of a three game road trip 102 – 99. Leonard playing in the Denver game after a three game absence scored 19 points along with Davis Bertans’ 18 points to lead the Spurs in the Denver win.
Leonard sat out the Hawk game under the “injury management” protocol. The Spurs played the Hawks close but could not get over the end of the game blues. With the loss the team falls to 29 – 16.
Note: The Spurs have the best NBA home record at 19 - 2.
