Sam Houston Hurricane's Girls & Boys Varsity Basketball Take District Title
Putting pressure on the other team is what Sam Houston Boys Varsity Basketball is all about, pressure and get a run, pressure and get a run. Sometimes, as we all know, we may not be 'on' that game day and it didn't go that way for Sam the whole season but for the Hurricanes it went that way last Friday. They brought a slam dunk defensive performance for the last district game of the season.
The Hurricanes suited up and managed to keep Jefferson at bay and an all season low in scoring with a 47-26 win inside the Alamo Convocation Center. This game brought our Hurricanes the title to District 28-5A Champs!
Sam Houston Guard told the Express-News that, "It meant a lot to us because it was a championship game", Guard Isiah Miller said. "So we played the best defense of the season."
Isiah Miller is a powerful force as a guard for the Hurricanes as he helped lead the pressure of bringing on the defense for his team.
Though Sam Houston struggled at times, they made up for all missed opportunities with more layups by creating steals and pushing up the court fast and not allowing for their opponent to figure out their next move. Another huge contributor was Tyshaun Huey, a 6'3 junior guard. He left that win with his game high of 16 points. Huey created turnovers, ran the floor, rebounded and was in the fight the whole way to the win.
As Sam Houston prepares for the playoffs we, as a community, send them the most support and we will be cheering in the stands! Go Hurricanes!
And as we move to the young women it's a SWEEP! Sam Houston Hurricanes Girls Varsity Basketball takes District also! With an overall season of 20-6 and only falling short of 3 wins out of 12 for district the lady's pushed forward to secure the title.
Congratulations to all of the great athletes who spend their time working hard with passion and a desire to achieve the best results.
Good luck to both teams in the playoffs!
