The Spurs started their Rodeo road trip on a winning note beating the Phoenix Suns handily 129 – 81. LaMarcus Aldridge led six players in double figure scoring with 23 point and 13 rebounds. Playing without their leading scorer, the Suns fell behind by as many as 53 points in the game. The second leg of the road trip was not as easy, as the defending champion Golden State Warriors beat the shorthanded Spurs 122 – 105.
Spurs were without Kawhi Leonard, Rudy Gay, Tony Parker, and DeJounte Murray. Kyle Anderson getting the start scored 20 points along with All Star Aldridge. Although the Spurs started off the game with a double digit lead, they could not hold off the hot shooting Warriors to lose their 22nd game of the season. The Utah game saw a much closer game between the two teams. The Spurs played without Aldridge but were able to hold their own with the Jazz who were on a nine game win streak.
After a close first half, San Antonio outscored the Jazz in the third quarter leading by as many as 13 points, but a slow fourth quarter saw that lead evaporate and the Jazz, led by their Rookie of the Year candidate Donovan Mitchell, walked away with a 101 – 99 win. The Spurs had a chance to win in the last seconds but mishandling of the ball and clock led to their demise.
The Spurs were led by Kyle Anderson’s 16 points, who also had four turnovers,
Note: The Spurs do not return to the AT&T Center until February 28th to face the New Orleans Pelicans. The All Star weekend begins Feb. 16 – 18th in Los Angeles, California.
