SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 26, 2018) - Direct from New Orleans, Junebug Productions takes us through time and space. Gomela/To Return highlights the vibrant and powerful movements and stories that breathe life into ancient African dance and drumming and contemporary artistic expression, such as spoken word, hip-hop and jazz. This riveting production hits The Carver stage at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. Making evident the connection between Africa, Haiti, and New Orleans, Gomela/ To Return illuminates place matters—gentrification and the right of return of New Orleanians displaced after Katrina; and Black Lives Matter—the beauty and resilience of black people, past and present.
Junebug Productions is the organizational successor to the Free Southern Theater (FST). FST was a major influence in the Black Arts Movement and the theater’s first professional tour was of Freedom School Project sites. The mission of Junebug Productions is to create and support artistic works that question and confront inequitable conditions that have historically impacted the African American community. Through interrogation, the organization challenges itself and those aligned with the organization to make greater and deeper contributions towards a just society!
