February 28, 2018

The Lady Rockets are headed back to state for a consecutive year after defending their 2017 regional championship. The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Alexander 49-31 in the Region IV-6A Championship this past Saturday at Littleton Gymnasium.

“It’s another chance to prove ourselves and go further than we did last year,” Judson senior forward Desiree Lewis said. “It’s a great feeling going back-to-back.”

The win was not without adversity however. The lady Rockets were able to break away from the Lady Bulldogs midway through the second quarter with a 16-0 run which snapped a 14-14 tie. The Lady Rockets never looked back.

The Lady Rockets were led by Corina Carter’s game high 15 points including four 3 pointers. Desiree Lewis chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds.

“It feels real good,” Judson junior guard Corina Carter said. “We all worked for it all season, and it’s coming in our hands.”

Judson is making their second State appearance in program history. The Lady Rockets lost to eventual 6A champion Duncanville 53-41 in the state semifinals last year.  The Lady Rockets face off in the State Semifinals against Region II-6A Champion Sachse (29-7) Saturday, March 1st at the Alamodome.
