San Antonio Public Library Celebrates National Library Week April 8 -14

-- Community is invited to share what they love about the library on social media for a chance to win a library t-shirt or Fiesta medal --

SAN ANTONIO (April 9, 2018) --- This week, San Antonio Public Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating the 60th anniversary of National Library Week, an annual celebration of the life-changing work of libraries, librarians and library workers. This year's theme is Libraries Lead and library systems across the country are highlighting the many ways libraries lead their communities through the transformative services, programs and expertise they offer. San Antonio Public Library wants to know how the library has led its patrons to something meaningful in their life. They are asking community members to share their stories on social media using the hashtags #NationalLibraryWeek #LibrariesLead #SAPLLeadMe and #SAPLLedMe and to visit one of the 290 programs happening this week across 30 library locations! Anyone who shares their story online or in person is eligible to win a San Antonio Public Library t-shirt or Fiesta medal.

“San Antonio Public Library is a major asset of our community, dedicated to serving with equity and passion,” said Ramiro Salazar, Director of the San Antonio Public Library.  “We look forward to celebrating National Library Week with our patrons and to hearing about how the library has changed their lives through the power of information, imagination, and ideas.”

Libraries aren’t just places to borrow books or study—they’re also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies and develop their skills and passions. Libraries of all types have long been evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. Resources like e-books and digital literacy classes, materials for English-language learners, early literacy programming and opportunities for job seekers are just a few ways libraries and librarians are transforming to lead their communities.

Community members can also develop their own leadership skills at the library, with endless opportunity to build skills and confidence through resources and programming.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
