San Antonio – A local sister act emerged in San Antonio at Music Fest 2018 for the first time being selected to play and sing at the renowned Tobin Center for Performing Arts.
“Maya Herring and her younger sister Olivia are two students who found their gifts at an early age” says mother Jacqueline. “They are blessed, and God has been good to them.”
Maya is a classical trained piano player, and taking private lessons with Xiaoke Cheng. While piano is her love she is in the percussion section as a member of the Churchill High School Marching Band.
“Olivia Herring is a 5th grade student at Castle Hills Elementary School, trained in piano, but her gift to sing was discovered over the last year.” She joined the school choir and has a singing coach. Olivia’s singing teacher is Ms Lisa Flores.
In a competitive tryout conducted by the Musical Arts Center of San Antonio, both auditioned to perform at the Tobin Center. Olivia was selected to sing Harry Greenfield & Neil Sedaka’s “Stupid Cupid”. Her older sister was approved to accompany her on piano which is a first for the music company.
Maya was selected to play in her second straight year to perform classical piece, “Enchanted Moment” by Dennis Alexander. They both did wonderful and their video is posted on saobserver.com.
The dynamic duo performed a mash up of John Legend's “Glory”, “This is Me”, and Andra Day's song “Rise Up” at Now Word Covenant Church for Black History Month. The oldest musician was selected to perform at the NAACP National Convention to compete in the ACTSO competition. We wish them the very best in their musical futures as they represent our city.
