CWB Annual Back-to-School Jamboree continues to support the Community
SAN ANTONIO – The Claude W. Black Center Advisory Board, in cooperation with healing souls, Inc., held its annual Back-to-School Jamboree at the Claude W. Black Community Center, Aug. 10.
The organizations, with assistance from community partners, corporate entities, community members and volunteers, distributed more than 550 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students.
Children received free books during the 13th Annual Back-to-School Jamboree held at the Claude W. Black Community Center.
Additionally, families had the opportunity to receive free resource information from 36 vendors, health screenings from University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio (UTHSCSA) medical students, and the opportunity to register to vote provided by the Prince Hall Shriners of Moussa Temple No. 106.
Alexandria Davis, community service chair for the San Antonio Chapter of the Student National Medical Association and her fellow students attended the jamboree.
“We wanted to help the minorities in the community and provide free health screenings to include blood glucose, body mass index, and blood pressure checks,” said Davis, a first-year medical student with UTHSCSA. “We also provide health counseling.”
The Office of District 2 Councilman William “Cruz” Shaw continues to pay a significant role in the success of the annual event.
Prince Hall Shriners of Moussa Temple No. 106 provided parent and grandparents the opportunity to register to vote at the 13th Annual Back-to-School Jamboree held at the Claude W. Black Community Center.
