We have lots to celebrate here in District 2 - starting with the passing of our FY2019 budget!
City Council voted last week to approve the FY2019 Budget. For the second year ever, an equity assessment was used in assessing how we address the needs of our community. This ensures that areas that may have been historically overlooked have the opportunity to make up for lost time. Equity aims to understand the needs of the community and fairly distribute resources.
We are so excited about what’s in store for District 2 with the passing of this budget. From increased funding for infrastructure and facility improvements to increased funding for key programs, 2019 will be a fruitful year for our district. We worked with our constituents from start to finish and advocated for funding based on our shared priorities.
Below are a few highlights of the FY2019 Budget:
* I fought for our district to secure $27.1 Million for infrastructure improvements, which
is more than we have ever received. Strong infrastructure benefits our residents while
also attracting positive growth and development.
* We have secured funds for park improvements at Pittman-Sullivan, MLK, Lincoln,
Copernicus, Dawson, Lockwood/Dignowity, and the Wheatley Heights Sports
* We have secured funds for our Vacant Lot Housing Development Incentive pilot
program. We all know that for communities to flourish, residents must have access to
affordable housing. This pilot program will allow us to clear any existing titles or liens
on vacant lots to allow for affordable housing development.
Those are just a few of the exciting updates we have for our district. We look forward to continuing to give our district the investment it deserves.
