Commissioner Calvert announces 2nd Chance Job Fair to be held October 17, 2018
(SAN ANTONIO, TX) - Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert will be hosting the 2nd Chance Job Fair in partnership with a number of local entities on Wednesday, October 17, 2018from 9 am to 12 pm. at the Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St, San Antonio, Texas 78219.
Employers are encouraged to sign up now to attend this FREE community event. The goal is to connect employers with job seekers who have been unemployed due to the economic downturn or former incarceration. The first 2nd Chance Job Fair held in 2015 hosted more than 100 employers, 20 non-profit and service organizations and attracted more than 1800 attendees. Last year’s job had over 750 job seekers in attendance.
“We also want to educate employers that the County needs their help in hiring those who served time so that we can make them productive members of society. When I became chair of the reentry council, the county had just over 200 employers who said they would hire the formerly incarcerated. We now have over 800 employers who have told the county they will hire the formerly incarcerated. We want more employers to know there are tax incentives and support learned from other employers,” stated Commissioner Calvert.
Employers interested in hiring the formerly incarcerated and participate in the 2nd Chance Job Fair are encouraged to call the Bexar County Small Minority Women-owned Business Enterprise Office (SWMBE) at (210) 335-2478 to register.
For Job Seekers, information on resume preparation, business clothing, and bus passes is available for those seeking to attend the job fair.
