San Antonio – The Black Contractors Association of San Antonio announce their endorsement for former District 2 City Councilman Keith A. Toney.   The organization praised Toney for his experience, campaigning with integrity, and consistently standing up for their companies over the years. Unfortunately, the City of San Antonio has not met the aspirational goals determined within the disparity study that shows discrimination exists in the marketplace.    It was stated that “Keith Toney believes in our business community and is not courting developers and those outside of district 2.”  Toney is seen in a YouTube video at City of San Antonio Economic Development Department asking challenging questions to the staff about how they can better support women and minority contractors in District 2.  Toney also testified at City Council Meetings as a citizen to be heard to support Black Contractors.

The other positive aspects of the Keith Toney is he has grown a healthy list of hard-working business owners who are trying to advance the Eastside and the overall district.  One local business leader, Jane Gonzalez, president/CEO of MedWheels said, when she heard of BCA’s endorsement, “Mr. Toney knows the problems Black companies face.”    She adds that “Keith Toney is a seasoned eastside leader who understands the challenges of economic growth and contracting opportunities.  The Eastside needs a leader who is ready on day one to open the doors for our local SMWBE’s to grow.  These companies already existing in the Eastside can have a dramatic impact to our families by creating hope through job creation.   Mr. Toney has shown his support and knowledge making transformation change in our community.”

The BCA met with Keith Toney and Jada Andrews-Sullivan at St Philips College as a part of the organizations Board meeting on April 11, 2019.
