Funds Now Available to Low-Income Homeowners for Home Rehabilitation
SAN ANTONIO (Aug 9, 2019) - Starting Aug 9th the City of San Antonio will begin offering home rehabilitation assistance to eligible low income homeowners. The Owner Occupied Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (OOR) is available citywide. Rehabilitation can include the removal of health and safety issues, improvements to major systems, accessibility modifications and work to increase energy savings.
Applications are available now at the Neighborhood and Housing Services Department office located at 1400 S. Flores St. or for download at https://www.sanantonio.gov/NHSD/Programs/Repair. Residents interested in applying can begin submitting their applications starting Aug.14, 2019 through Sept.24, 2019.
To be eligible for assistance, the homeowner must have a gross annual income that is at or below 80% of the area median income. For a family of four, the 80% limit is $56,800. Applicants must own and occupy their home and property tax payments need to be current. Assistance is provided as a deferred forgivable loan secured by a lien for 10 to 20 years depending on the amount of assistance which can be up to $80,000 worth of improvements to a home.
Homeowners will be selected by lottery on Oct.1, 2019. Potential applicants are encouraged to attend any of the Neighborhood and Housing Services Department’s (NHSD) information sessions to learn more about the OOR program and application requirements.
