March 17, 2020

On Wednesday, March 11th, the 2019-20 NBA season was put on ice indefinitely as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the sports world. The decision was made after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz preliminarily tested positive for Coronavirus.

Gobert tested positive, according to ESPN and other media outlets, shortly before his team's game Wednesday night against the host Oklahoma City Thunder.

The NBA postponed that game right before tip-off after Gobert’s diagnosis was learned. Shortly thereafter, the league announced it would suspend the season "until further notice" after the night's slate of games around the country.

The NBA isn’t the only professional sports league on hiatus. The N.H.L., M.L.S. and Major League Baseball suspended play. The N.C.A.A. canceled all of its championships, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

On a local level, UIL Boy’s basketball state tournament was postponed this past weekend until further notice.
