Hello SAISD Parents,
This past week SAISD has recently said our schools will be closed until May 1st, and this is subject to change as our city updates us on the COVID-19 virus. I know that during this time it's been hard to manage to be a parent, teacher, along with making sure that your family has all the essentials. Parents, as we all wake up every morning, remember that this too will pass, so let's try to work through this together. I know that most of us are still trying to figure out what will happen next, but if you need to reach out, then find a moment to facetime a friend or another parent. We must remember that it takes a village to raise a child and today our village lives through technology. So, as we work together, this will give us the ability to see the light at the end of the tunnel, which will help our entire family.
Parents, as we race around trying to help our children with their classwork, take a moment to see that this curriculum is based on standardized testing. I am asking you to do this because when school is back in session, we must start trying to find a way to stop all these tests. In today's society, people often say that teachers have lost their passion for teaching, but as you can see, this is not true. Now that we're helping our children with their assignments were becoming overwhelmed as well. The passion for becoming a teacher is one that takes a big heart with enough room to take on the world. So, parents take a moment and let us give all of our SAISD teachers a round of applause because they too are first responders.

Lastly, parents know that I appreciate you reading my column but know that I am here to help as well.
