Texas Governor Loosens Stay at Home and Work Restrictions amid Coronavirus
Abbott has spoken. Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott has loosened stay at home and work restrictions while also allowing some businesses to resume operation (at 25% occupancy). Effective May 1st, and looking at a mid may opening of the 2nd round of businesses, Abbott is feared to be acting hastily. Abbott made sure it was clear that his instructions 'trump' all other current orders or mandatory policies. San Antonio had a mask requirement in order and no longer can enforce it. It is highly recommended, by the City of San Antonio, to wear face masks. The city has also agreed to work with businesses who want to require masks in their own establishments. There was some agreement with Wolff acknowledging that Abbott made the right call when limiting capacity for those non-essential businesses reopening. Both the Mayor and County Judge were also in agreement that the worst decision Abbott made was not to enforce the masks.
Nirenberg told KSAT "We're not going to risk life and safety at all." The Mayor and County Judge are taking the safety of this community and its public health very seriously, this lends to fact when Abbott commended Bexar County for containing this virus as they did. We urge the public to continue essential business only when it is at all possible. Social distancing and wearing masks is our new normal until a vaccine is found. Stay safe, stop the spread.
