SAISD Considers many options for school to re-open in the fall

Schools will operate very different next year- here is what SAISD is considering

Hello SAISD Parents,

As we're still trying to wrap up this school year, know that progress reports went out to all students last week. So, as we get closer to wrapping up this school year, please check to see if your child has done all their assignments. The last day for students to
complete all their work is between May 20th to May 22nd, these days will depend on your child's school. Parents, if you have any questions, reach out to your child’s teachers and set up a meeting through Zoom. I know that this has been an overwhelming time for all of us, but if we work together, then we can ensure that all of our children will achieve academic success. Also, please don't forget to register your child for the next school year, even if your child is a returning student.  I know we're all tired and stressed out, but let's
help our children end this school year with passing grades.

As this school year ends, let us look at the ideas that SAISD is thinking about doing to reopen our schools. First, SAISD is in the process of starting summer school online this July for any students that may be falling behind during this crisis.

Now, let us go over some of the other ideas that SAISD is looking at for the next school year. To ensure our children’s safety they are talking about having smaller classes with only 22 students.  They will eat their meals in the rooms while practicing social distancing. The other ideas include giving parents a choice of having their child in
school all day or attending half a day. Then the district is trying to figure out how many children can fit on one bus while practicing social distancing.  SAISD is trying to find the safest way to reopen our schools, which could include our children being in a hybrid-class, which means that some learning would take place at school and then online at home. All these are just ideas which means parents,  you still have time to give your opinions to our school board. At this point we're all scared, but if we work together, I believe we can find a way to reopen our schools next year.

Please remember to be safe and wear your mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands. Lastly, remember I am here if anyone has any questions or concerns, please email me at Lena.lopez@saobserver.com

Have a Blessed Week,

Lena
